As expected the difference in quality between Ajax Amsterdam and Austria Vienna was just too big. The Austrian underdog tried to resist but failed because of the productivity of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Ajax did not get into trouble at all. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored the first goal in the 35th minute after Austria-keeper Szabolcs Safar blocked an effort by Hedwiges Maduro. Edgar Manucharyan made it 2-0 from a corner and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar made it 3-0 after a free kick from Kenneth Perez. Jaap Stam and Gabri picked up a yellow card
